Westside 9 - Residential building

The new building is located in a quiet, affluent residential district close to the center of Lugano. The hillside position offers a view of the lake from the upper levels. The project calls for the construction of ten apartments of different sizes, with luxurious finishing, terraces, gardens and communal sauna-fitness spaces. The typological concept is based on the classic subdivision of the layout into two parts: the bedroom zone towards the hill, and the daytime zone towards the valley. The form of the two parts is diversified to add variety to the interiors and their functions, and also to the facades, which are orthogonal and understated towards the access drive, and more dynamic and curved towards the lake. The main pedestrian entrance to the building is from Via Sassa, while from Via Cantù there is direct access to the underground garage. The materials are: white fair-face concrete, glass and natural anodized aluminium for the window frames and sliding external sunscreen panels. The landscaped garden completes the outdoor spaces, adapting to the existing topography.
