Paperworld 2020 - Future Office | Smart Solutions - Frankfurt am Main

Smart Solutions – A special trade fair highlight for architects, interior designers, office planners and facility managers at the Paperworld trade fair from 25 - 28 January, 2020 is the Future Office innovation area jointly designed by Messe Frankfurt, Matter – Büro für Architektur und Städtebau and World-Architects, this time under the important motto of Smart Solutions. Visitors to the specialist lectures on Monday, 27 January and Tuesday, 28 January 2020 delivered by eight nationally and internationally renowned architects and planners will thus gain valuable inspiration on the current state of office planning. After each lecture block, visitors can participate in a Guided Tour by World-Architects in the innovation area as well as to selected exhibitors to gain insights into the concrete answers of the office industry.

While the digitalization of the building industry has gained momentum at all levels, the digital transformation is also clearly noticeable in the world of work. Networking, interactivity and automation enable new forms of office design and teamwork. Decisive for the success of these new office landscapes will be how people, machines and interiors can interact. The aim is to find the optimum balance between digital and analog solutions in order to make work itself as smooth as possible. Ideally, these smart solutions are based on holistic approaches which reconcile communication, office space and wellbeing. Physiological comfort, building automation, cloud-working, home office, outsourcing or digital coworking are just a few of the core topics that planners of contemporary office space have to deal with. Once again, the Future Office innovation area designed by architect André Schmidt from Berlin impressively demonstrates which tools are necessary to create such a smart office landscape that optimizes the processes in an organization and simultaneously inspires employees.

Visitors to the World-Architects lectures will get profound impetus from professionals from architecture and office planning and can then be inspired by the industry partners in the Future Office innovation area and the exhibition halls of Paperworld.

  • How office buildings learn to think – "The office of the future must meet many requirements: It should promote creativity and productivity, at the same time create an atmosphere of well-being and adapt flexibly to the needs of employees at all times. With the help of Internet of Things technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), the office will be able to learn from the data of the company, the users and the environment and react independently to the needs of its users and their behavior in the future." • Workplace? Work takes place! – "The more digitalization permeates our living and working environments and the more our focus shifts towards innovative and creative tasks, the more we experience a longing for analog, sensual and meaningful environments. Working no longer takes place only at one’s desk in the office. Working environments are above all places for personal encounters, communication and collaboration; they are places that are emotionally charged and make it possible to experience identity and belonging to one's colleagues. The office as a cultural hotspot." Sandra Breuer, Dr. rer. pol. MAS Architecture ETH, Managing Partner at combine Consulting GmbH

  • Open, straightforward, resource-conserving and for people: The new building of the Alnatura working environment – "In Darmstadt, the Alnatura working environment is an architectural milestone in terms of sustainability, material efficiency, openness and modern forms of work. One of the special features of the building on the Alnatura Campus designed by haascookzemmrich STUDIO2050 is the use of an innovative rammed earth façade, which was the first in the world to be fitted with a geothermal wall heating system.
The building on the site of the former Kelley Barracks adheres to the principles of a holistic, sustainable architecture, which is expressed, among other things, in the DGNB certification in platinum. The Alnatura working environment was developed in a resource-conserving manner using natural or recycled materials. Architecturally, the building's open character is captivating: In contrast to the earth building character of the exterior façade, the interior of the working world is bright, with curved levels and a wide-span wooden roof supported by slender columns. A light-flooded atrium forms the center, around which the working world extends on three levels with a total of 10,000 m²." Martin Haas, Prof. Dipl. Ing. Arch., partner at haascookzemmrich STUDIO2050

  • Everything will come to an end ... – "Nothing is as constant as change ... (Heraclitus) – architecture must not fall for this change. For it is precisely the continuity of architecture that determines its quality. Good architecture must therefore always mean to be enduring in the face of fast-moving tendencies and short-term trends. Various office buildings, ranging from the Federal Intelligence Service Headquarters to the future high-rise building at the Nordhafen in Berlin, demonstrate qualities in planning and execution that promise both: good architecture of lasting quality and internal flexibility." • Work Life Balance – "In a world that is more and more characterized by ultra-fast change, consistency is becoming the most valuable good. Paired with the desire of many people for flexible work design, those who have to conceive environments to be built for this are confronted with exciting challenges. Today, work has above all become mobile, the smartphone a symbol of a working environment that is theoretically always present and at the same time constantly changing. However, working from anywhere does not mean that the location is no longer important. Quite the opposite. The more flexibility we allow and ask people to have with regard to working hours and location, the more important it becomes to offer the individual a defined place in his environment of seemingly infinite possibilities, which conveys a feeling of 'home' through reliability and consistency." Meeting point office of the future

Today more than ever before, creating a good office workplace is a challenge for planners. The demands on the working environment have increased enormously in recent years. Not least, the digitisation of work has simplified many tasks and made others superfluous, but it also requires a new infrastructure. Furthermore, the ongoing digitisation of buildings allows conditions at one’s workplace that could hardly be more individual. Architects, interior designers, designers, clients, and facility managers - they all come together in the field of office planning. This requires precise mutual coordination. Today and all the more so in the "Future Office".
