The management consultancy newly occupied office is located in the KöBogen designed by Daniel Libeskind and is therefore situated in the immediate vicinity of the Königsallee – the heart of Düsseldorf. The expressive, organically apparent outer architecture was supposed to be transferred to the inside, to become experienceable and comprehensible. Simultaneously, it was essential to ease the versatile dark-grey façade on the inside by a moderate, holistically light basic colour concept.

We filtered the core values of this international consultancy at this location for the particular divisions through extensive analyses and interviews with employees in order to create unique design experiences matching the brand’s personality. Extraordinary ideas, dynamic, reflection and mental strength characterize the employees; this was to be transferred.

The basic tone, beside a neutral warm white, is “greige”, a grey-beige-colour that evolved from the overlapping of the façade colours dark grey (steel façade) and beige (travertine cladding panels). Through the jointlessly grouted polyurethane floor in special zones and other aspects, this tone creates a calm, carrying background for the multitude of spatial single experiences with their strong colourings.

According to the comprehensive analyses, each separate area holds a unique colour composition which is represented in form of dynamic colour gradients of large-sized edition carpets following the room’s structure. Acoustically absorbent panelling and partially colourful light intensify this composition. Organically formed single armchairs – more like objects – find themselves recurring in all areas and consolidate the particular world of colours.

Brand quotations – partially in mirror writing – and macro-detailed pictures filling whole walls inspire to think and invite to gain an insight into the culture of the company. Reflective surfaces, representing mental reflection, involve the observer into the moving space presentation and make him become part of the whole.

The working environment of the 350 employees with its open space- and cellular offices is characterized by transparency and an objective, in terms of colours moderate design which expresses contemplation and concentration.

Extra retreat areas for small meetings were created by independently placed, organically formed focus and conference rooms.  Spiral phone cabins extend the options to liberate oneself from the personal office space if even more discretion is needed.
The complex integration of a sophisticated account planning and a sustainable light- and living technique transferred onto the difficult ichnography’s geometry of the 7000 sqm as well as the extraordinary interior design was an additional challenge which evidently paid off.
