The planned removal of the pedestrian bridge over Vöttinger Straße and the relocation of the street 'Am Staudengarten' will open up the area of the former state institutes towards the city centre. The area to the south of the new building is perceived as a large, public square in an exposed/elevated location that serves as a place for students, employees and visitors to stay. It guides the flow of pedestrians and cyclists safely and purposefully across the street. In order to enable disabled access, the elevation towards Vöttinger Straße is overcome by a generous ramp system.
The paved area to the west of the building can be used as a multifunctional area with seating, e.g. for open-air exhibitions, concerts, markets and events. The adjacent large open space with stepped terrain is bordered on two sides by existing buildings.
The rooms in the southern basement will be illuminated by means of a terrace courtyard covered with natural stone and thus experience an additional upgrade and more private use. In addition, the area will be landscaped with stepped perennial areas and thus have a high quality of stay.
In the north of the building, there will be traffic access and parking facilities for approx. 200 vehicles. As a replacement for felled trees, large trees will be planted around the entire perimeter. In the kindergarten area, additional small trees and hedges will be planted.
