The new building connects to an old high school building to the east. Conservation issues and fire protection requirements led to unusual fire protection shutters. To the west, the new building docks at the science wing of the high school, offering new connections on all three floors between the older buildings. Split-levels sourround a central hall. The main cafeteria with 170 seats and a balcony overlooking the river are located on the main floor. On the next level, additional cafeteria space with 70 seats is provided. The auditorium on the top level can be used as a studio theater and offers 240 seats. Secured by a waterproof pressure-glazing to the river, the lower floor comprises of a media center and group rooms. By many different means, the annual primary energy demand of the building is reduced by 30%, the transmission heat loss by 47% compared to the EnEV regulations.
