Conversion Apartment E

 Back to Projects list
Location
Wiesbaden
Year
2010

The aim was to transform the existing dwelling, which was divided into small sections through many rebuildings and installations into an open, generously laid out and bright apartment.

By removing various walls, stairs and installations an extensive space of 210 sqm was generated.

In order to maximize the light and brightness in the apartment all the walls, ceilings and the floor were painted in white. Merely the children's rooms are held in green and pink.

Living space | gallery

The double-height living space is connected to the gallery and the kitchen. Below the roof ridge a height of nearly 5 metres is reached. The gallery functions as a private living area and as a home office. It has a railing made of filigree steel ropes which are fixed to the existing roof framework. By that no visual boundary between the living space and the gallery is created and the room becomes one space.

Connected bedroom, bathroom and corridor The corridor was cut off by natural light, as the former owners had build in a second bathroom and a utility room. To guarantee natural light and a second bathroom at the same time a glazed shower was integrated into the corridor. Thus a bathroom opened to the sleeping room and glazed to the corridor was created. A generous space sequence was originated by the functional linking of the bedroom with the bathroom and the corridor with the bathroom. Space is increased if at the same time different functions overlap on one surface.

Roof terraces

Two bird’s nests like roof terraces can be reached through the gallery. From here one enjoys an unobstructed view of the town.
