Stephan Birk

Stephan Birk, Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Architekt BDA, was born 1975 in Stuttgart. He completed his architectural studies at University of Stuttgart, where he graduated in 2003. Upon his graduation Stephan joined Foster+Partners in London. Subsequently, in 2005, he founded his own practice together with Liza Heilmeyer in Stuttgart. Their work has been acknowledged with several awards, among them the prestigious Deubau-Preis for young architects, emerging architects award weissenhof architecture gallery, North Rhine-Westfalia award for young artists and Europe 40 under 40 - Europe's emerging young architects and designers. Since 2012 the practice operates together with Martin Frenzel.

From 2007-2011 Stephan was an academic researcher at the department ibk1 (Building Construction and Design, Chair 1) at University of Stuttgart. From 2012-15 he held an interim professorship at the department ibk2 (Building Technology, Construction and Design, Chair 2) of University of Stuttgart. 2015 he was appointed to a professorship at University of Kaiserslautern and works in the research area T-Lab Wood Architecture and Wood-Based Materials.

Liza Heilmeyer

Liza Heilmeyer, Dipl.-Ing. Architektin BDA, was born 1975 in Freiburg. Prior to her architectural studies and graduation at University of Stuttgart she accomplished a one-year study programme at Art School Stuttgart. Upon her graduation in 2003 Liza joined Foster+Partners in London. Subsequently, in 2005, she founded her own practice together with Stephan Birk in Stuttgart. Their work has been acknowledged with several awards, among them the prestigious Deubau-Preis for young architects, emerging architects award weissenhof architecture gallery, North Rhine-Westfalia award for young artists and Europe 40 under 40 - Europe's emerging young architects and designers.

From 2008-10 Liza was an academic researcher at the department ibk2 (Building Technology, Construction and Design, Chair 2). In 2009 she was appointed to the Association of German Architects (BDA). In the years 2010 and 2012 Liza was a member of the convention of Federal Foundation of Baukultur. Since 2012 the practice operates together with Martin Frenzel. In October 2020 Liza Heilmeyer was elected as the new state chairman of the BDA Baden-Württemberg.

Martin Frenzel

Martin Frenzel, Dipl.-Ing. Architekt, was born 1971 in Heidenheim. He studied architecture and graduated at University of Kaiserslautern in 2000. From 1997-2005 he worked as a freelancer for Mahler Günster Fuchs Architekten in Stuttgart. During 2001-2003 he shared his experience as an academic researcher for the department Städtebau (Urban Design Institute) of University of Stuttgart. In 2004 he began to work as self-employed architect. The cooperation with Stephan Birk und Liza Heilmeyer started in 2008 and since 2012 the practice operates under the name Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Architekten. In 2017 he was appointed to the Association of German Architects (BDA)

Felix Fritz

Felix Fritz, Dipl.-Ing. Architekt, was born 1982 in Reutlingen, he studied architecture at University of Stuttgart, where he graduated in 2010. During his studies he worked at several architectural practices in Stuttgart, Freiburg as well as in Shanghai. Since 2010 he has been employed at Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Architekten, where he has been associate as of 2017. In 2019 Felix Fritz was appointed to the management board.

Jochen Günzler

Jochen Günzler, Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Architekt, was born 1968 in Stuttgart, he studied architecture at University of Applied Sciences in Kaiserslautern and completed his studies with the German degree Diplom. He worked at Seidenspinner Architekten in Metzingen from 2002 to 2005. In 2005 he founded his own practice GUD Architekten in Stuttgart, before in 2007 he took up further education to become an energy consultant (BAFA). Since 2008 he has been cooperating with Stephan Birk and Liza Heilmeyer in various projects. Since 2009 he has first worked freelance as a project manager, and then employed at Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Architekten. Jochen Günzler has been an associate since 2017.

Mykola Holoviznin

M.A. Architect, Associate

Mykola Holoviznin, Dipl.-Ing. Electrical Engineering, M.A. Architect, born 1972 in Kherson, Ukraine. After ten years as project manager of a construction company in St.Petersburg, Russia, Mr. Holoviznin moved to Germany in 2003. There he studied architecture at the HfT Stuttgart and graduated with a Master of Arts degree in 2011. In 2011 Mykola Holoviznin joined Birk Heilmeyer and Frenzel Architekten, initially as a freelancer, and since 2013 he has primarily been working in HOAI service phases 6 to 8. Since 2018 he has been an associate.

Hanna Münzenmaier

Hanna Münzenmaier, Dipl.-Ing. Architektin, was born 1983 in Stuttgart, she studied architecture at Technische Universität Dresden, at University College Dublin, and at University of Stuttgart, where she graduated in 2009. During her studies she worked at several architectural practices in Stuttgart, Dresden and Dublin. Since 2010 she has been employed at Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Architekten, and she has been project manager and associate since 2017.

Stephan Schäfer

Dipl.-Ing. Architect, Associate

Stephan Schäfer, Dipl.-Ing. Architekt, was born 1971 in Ulm, he studied architecture at University of Stuttgart, and at IIT Chicago and graduated in 2001 with the German degree Diplom. From 2002 to 2008 he worked at Foster+Partners in London and Zurich. Stephan Schäfer was project manager at Ackermann Architekten in Munich from 2009 to 2012. Between 2008 and 2015 he was also teaching at the TU Munich, and at the University of Stuttgart. Since 2012 he has been working as a project manager at Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Architekten. He has been an associate since 2017.
