Peter Berner

Diploma in engineering/architecture BDA. Born in Cologne in 1963, he studied architecture at the RWTH Aachen from 1983 to 1990. As a member of the student planning group Artecta, he won the Schinkel Prize in 1989.

In 1990 he founded the office ASTOC Architects and Planners with Kees Christiaanse, Oliver Hall and Markus Neppl. He has been a member of Cologne City Planning Committee since 2008 and chairman of the BDA Bund Deutscher Architekten NRW since 2011. He became president of the Architektur Forum Rheinland e.V. in 2011.

He taught urban development and planning at the Fachhochschule Bochum from 2002-3; since 2003 he has been professor of urban planning and design at Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Design (University of Ostwestfalen-Lippe).

Ingo Kanehl

Diploma in engineering/architecture MBA. Born in Minden in 1971, he studied architecture at the University of Bochum from 1992 to 1999; MBA degree at the University of Duisburg-Essen/Zollverein School from 2006 to 2008.

In 1999 he worked for Otto Steidle/Peter Schmitz Architects, Cologne. In 2000 he joined ASTOC Architects and Planners, where he has been a Managing Director since 2009. He has taught architectural construction and design at the RWTH Aachen (2000 to 2001), and urban development and planning at the Fachhochschule Cologne (since 2010). Ingo Kanehl has been a Managing Partner since 2014.

Diploma in engineering/architecture. Born in Remscheid in 1961, he studied architecture at the RWTH Aachen from 1983 to 1990. As a member of the student planning group Artecta, he won the Schinkel Prize in 1989.

Work in the office of Prof. Jörg Friedrich, Hamburg (1990 to 1991), as project head in the office HPP Hentrich-Petschnigg und Partner, Hamburg (1991 to 1995), and head of office at HPP, Dresden (1995 to 1999); also project head for building clients at ABG Allgemeine Baubetreuungsgesellschaft, Cologne (1999 to 2002). In 2003 he joined ASTOC Architects and Planners, where he has been a Managing Director since 2009 and a Managing Partner since 2014.

Markus Neppl

Diploma in engineering/architecture BDA. Born in Duisburg in 1962, he studied architecture at the RWTH Aachen from 1983 to 1990. As a member of the student planning group Artecta, he won the Schinkel Prize in 1989.

In 1990 he founded the office ASTOC Architects and Planners with Kees Christiaanse, Peter Berner and Oliver Hall. He has taught at polytechnics in Bochum (1997) and Cologne (1998). Professor of urban development and planning at the University of Kaiserslautern (1999 to 2003) and of local regional planning and design at the Technical University, Karlsruhe (2003 to now). He has been Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the KIT Karlsruhe from 2008 to 2012.

Jörg Ziolkowski

Diploma in engineering/architecture. Born in Karlsruhe in 1964, studied architecture at the RWTH Aachen from 1985 to 1992.

After working in the offices of Jim Shay Architects, San Francisco (1992) and HPP Hentrich-Petschnigg und Partner, Hamburg and Düsseldorf (1992 to 1994), and as assistant to the Chair of Architectural Construction and Planning at the RWTH Aachen (1994 to 2001), he founded Ziolkowski.WS Architektur, Cologne in 1995. In 2008 he joined ASTOC Architects and Planners, where he has been a Managing Director since 2009 and a Managing Partner since 2014.
