Schillerhalle
Dettingen an der Erms / Germany, 2009 Description
New building: a multipurpose hall for sport and cultural usesThe volume structure is characterized by a central, crystalline hall body surrounded on all sides by a low ring of buildings with natural stone façades. On the school side, a court has been created, open to the landscape and shielded from the urban surroundings by a narrow canopy. The central position of the foyer – between the hall and the court – creates clear functional spatial organization with short routes and good orientation. The kitchen can readily serve the hall, the foyer and the front court. The hall has a line of sight with the outside world through the transparent foyer onto the front court, and through the clerestory windows onto the surrounding Albtrauf mountain chain. This allows the region’s distinctive scenery to be seen from inside the building. The atmosphere in the hall and the foyer satisfies sporting requirements, and the materials, colour and lighting make it a suitable venue for cultural events. Competition
