Skywalk EXPO 2000
Hanover / Germany, 1997 Description
The 340 m long "Skywalk" provides a protected and fast pedestrian connection between the railway station and the entrance to the exhibition centre "Deutsche Messe Hanover". The building consists of a glazed double tube on slender columns and houses two walkways for each direction. The curved laminated glass panels with their favourable shell-action contribute to the overall structural behaviour of the façade. This allowed extremely slender steel profiles and a glass-thickness of only 6/6 LAG and finally gave a very economic solution of about 220 m². Architect
