Quartier Chronos
Hennef / Germany, 2001 Description
The precinct around the old Chronos factory in the centre of Hennef was transformed into an inner city residential and business district. The town is connected by the elongated, central square with the picturesque riverside scenery of the river Sieg. An underground car park below the site ensures that public spaces are free of cars and this underlines the high quality of visits to these zones. The project was completed to high ecological standards. The district is heated by a communal heating power plant with back-up from a gas-fired water boiler. Solar panels pre-heat the industrial water. Roofs are converted into green spaces and are further extended for use as roof terraces. The district in the centre of the urban village of Hennef, with its various squares and constant surprise views, has the character of a "modern old town". In the 46 buildings and residential apartments, it is possible to enjoy the attractions of urban living right on the edge of beautiful, unspoilt landscape. The project was set up in cooperation with Diesenroth architectural studio (listed buildings). |
