The plan was designed along a Danube-side office-park, where numeorus leading architects have signed projects already. While designing, we tried to enhance the surrounding brick cladded houses both from the turn of the century as well as from the last two decades. The „W”- shaped configuration was devised to dissolve the complicated plot and orientation conditions.

Directions

The coordinates of the main area is determinded by two factors; the line of the Danube river and the straight road. Both of these directions influenced the lines of the original plot, so they became a major factor in shaping the mass of the building as well.

Functions

This duality also stands for the functional planning. Massive office buildings are located on the north, while tripping pavilion residential houses stand on the south. The dormitory building and incubator houses combine these funcions as a whole one.

Triple block

Adapting the two main directions with the two different functions, the house has two grand masses, linked together on the ground floor by side wings. The simple, monolithic mass decomposes to three columns from the street. This act combines the dual scaling of the surrounding environment.

Interoperability solutions, a gate

In between the wings of the „W”- shape blocks, three protected outer spaces are formed. The floating side wings create a unified but still urban outer space. This area is lowered by 900 millimeters under the ground that turns the area even more protected, and intimate.

This twisted situation coming from the hight differences in solved by the transparency and the interoperability of the masses. These feautures provide the opportunity to the buliding to act as a gate between the office park and the still undeveloped areas.

Unified architecture

In appearance the building is clearly revealed as a single, monolithic mass, though the openings – adapting the rythm of the cellular functions – suggest a strong horizontal effect. This dual formulation is washed away by the uniformity of the ceramic cladding. The mid-level high ceramic tiles appear as flat, ventilated, mounted cladding in front of the parapet-zones, while acting as shading and anti-see-through panels in the zone of doors and windows. The plane and angle of the panels depend on the funtions behind, as well as the orientation. Also, their position can be changed with motorized controllers.

Layout

The main entrances of the two units lay on the two opposite poles. In both arrays, common areas, the lobby, a bar and the meeting rooms are on the groud floors. These areas are visually connected to the outer, procted spaces between the blocks. On the upper floors cellularly connected dormitory rooms, offices, and their related service areas are listed.

A roof-top garden and two terraces lay on the third floor. The winges of the „W”- shape provide opportunity to versatile the units.

Service areas serving the dormitory – such as a laundry room and sports room – can be found in the basement, where also the parking lots for office workers are.

Room units

Despite their small and compact size, the dormitory rooms still provide a sufficient sense of freedom and openness, due to their tensioned openings. This feature is intensified by the built-in furniture. The units appear from the corridors drawer-like, breaking its long, flat surface.

Future

Now, that the original site of the Graphisoft Park is is fully incorporated, a further expansion is awaited towards the south. The company purchased a long, narrow plot, parallel to the road.

According to the vision of the architects, this „W” – shaped building shall be the first step on a southward sprawl.
